Categories come from your provider and are fixed; collections are something you manage yourself within the app, independent of how the provider organized the content.

Why this is useful with a large library

A playlist with thousands of titles is unmanageable without structure. Categories give a first layer of organization; your own collections let you build a personal favorites or "watch later" list on top of that.

Illogical or duplicate categories

If your provider's categories are messy or duplicated, that's a provider choice — building your own collection is then the best way to regain your own overview.
